1. 170,000 tourists visist the Galapagos every year
2. The Galapagos giant Tortoise can live for over 150 years!
3. In the 1600´s pirates would use the islands as a base to attack the Spanish ports and trade routes
4. There have been over 60 documentented volcanic eruputions in the last 200 years on the islands
5. There are around 30,000 residents of the Galapagos Islands
